Major Snow, or Great Snow (Chinese pinyin: Da Xue), is the 21st solar term of the year and the third one of the winter.
Major Snow doesn't imply that heavy snow will surely be seen on the first day of this solar term period. However, during this solar term, it's highly possible to see heavy snow in more areas and snow begins to accumulate on the ground.
The snow in North China may last a whole day, breaking tree branches and blocking the road. The natural scenery is "ice blockading for hundreds of miles and snow flying through thousands of miles". In the South, the snowflakes swirl around and the world turns white.
